BOW DRILL BEARIN BLOCK
Here be a bow drill bearin block what I made outa a stone. A few years ago I messed up my left hand an I don’t have a real good grip with it. This stone fits well in my hand an it’ll be one less thin I have ta make ifin I wanna make a bow drill fire.
Made that dimple with a real good masonry bit an a very slow hammer drill! Rock be a bit heavy, but it’ll last ferever!
HUDSON BAY TIN
Here be my new Hudson Bay tin. In the photo yall will see it comes with a magnifyin lens in the lid. I’ll carry most a my fire startin stuff in here includin my chert an my striker.
This en be a copper version what be gettin harder ta find lately seems. Over the years will take on a nice patina.
CHERT
One a my jobsites turned out ta be a small goldmine fer chert! Some yall will call it flint, but they be different but used fer the same task. Startin fire with a steel.
Her be the chert. On the left be some small pieces what can be used in a flintlock rifle. Towards the bottom be some what I split out an also my striker what I built. Also be my lens an case as well as a bearin stone fer use with a bow drill. Several ways there a buildin a fire.
SINGLE SHOT 12 GA.
Bought a old Steven’s single shot 12 gauge shotgun at the gun show this winter. Will be used fer huntin an just knockin round the woods.
Plan on usin some black powder loads in it ta boot. I”ll share the experience as we move long with the project. Right now we been fixin it up fer the summer. The stock was replaced an I decided not ta over finnish it. I kinda like the rustic look. Did a bit a carvin an woodburnin on it.
Here be some a the work what I got done so far. An yeah, it kinda resembles me only not as portly as I’ve become over the years!
I’ll post more as the project moves along. One a the things we be workin on be a sling. We’ll show yall how I made a inexpensive barrel band fer the front mount.
BIG ISLAND RONDEVOUZ
Wen’t ta the Big Island Rondevouz this weekend. Was a great time, bought a new hawk, some excellent chert fer my flint an firesteel kit, some sinew fer leather work an a nice piece a leather ta make a sheath fer the new hawk.
The new hawk, been sharpenin it an the edge commin long nicely. Still need ta sand, stain an finish the handle. Might put some decoration on it. Then over the winter I’ll get a sheath made fer it. This be a hand forged hawk. I dug through nearly all he had before pickin this en out. Nice wieght an good balance. We’ll post up some more pics as the pronject comes along.
